Removing a felt-tip and marker stain from a sofa

·

With felt-tip and marker stains, the most important thing is not to do anything yourself. Don't poke or rub; it can't be removed with household products, and a wrong move can make the stain permanent. Call us and leave it alone.

Why shouldn't you clean a felt-tip or marker stain yourself?

Felt-tip and marker can't be removed with household products. If you start poking or rubbing it yourself, there is a risk the stain will spread and eventually no longer come out. It's best to leave the stain untouched and order cleaning.

Do felt-tip and marker come out of a sofa?

In our experience, yes, even stains that are several months old. We recently cleaned felt-tip and marker stains off the strong-weave fabric of a light-colored sofa; they had built up over time and were up to two months old by the time of cleaning.

Are felt-tip and marker harder to remove than other stains?

Yes, felt-tip and marker are generally harder than, for example, a coffee or wine stain. We need different products for it and have to extract the dissolved ink right away so it doesn't spread through the fabric. Permanent marker comes out harder than ordinary felt-tip.

How do you remove a felt-tip or marker stain?

We use hot-water extraction cleaning with an upholstery extractor and products suited to the stain, extracting the dissolved ink right away. You can find the full process on the sofa cleaning page.

How much does felt-tip or marker stain removal cost?

We don't offer removing a single stain on its own; we clean the whole sofa or armchair at once. The price depends on the piece of furniture, see the prices on sofa cleaning and armchair cleaning.
