Sofa fabric: what is the difference between different fabrics?

·

Cotton, linen and chenille are more delicate and more sensitive to moisture than polyester and other synthetic fabrics. With our upholstery extractor we can still clean most of them safely, always checking the fabric type first.

Can a cotton or linen sofa be cleaned with moisture?

Cotton and linen are more sensitive to moisture than synthetic fabrics and may change color or shrink with too much water. We first check the fabric type and use a suitable amount of water to avoid this risk.

Does chenille fabric need a special approach?

Yes, with chenille we avoid wetting the fabric too much and clean following the direction of the pile so that the surface structure does not suffer.

Are polyester and other synthetic fabrics easier to clean?

Yes, synthetic fabrics (polyester, nylon, acrylic) are generally more durable and tolerate wet cleaning better than natural fibers.

How do you clean different types of fabric?

We inspect the fabric on site and choose a suitable product and amount for it. You do not need to know the fabric type yourself. You can find the whole process on the sofa cleaning page. For specific fabric types, read: microfiber, velvet, alcantara.

The same material assessment is also needed when cleaning armchair upholstery. Send a photo of the care label and the furniture so that we can agree on a suitable treatment.
